“The Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) Research team is thrilled to share some feedback from our recently completed large-scale camera trap survey of the Boland Mountain Complex (BMC). The CLT BMC survey area stretches from Bainskloof in the north, southwards through the Limietberg, Jonkershoek, Hottentots-Holland mountains and Groenlandberg to the Kogelberg coast in the south.
The Helderberg basin also played host to 5 camera stations, placed inside the Helderberg Nature Reserve as well as on Lourensford and Vergelegen. Several mammal species, including leopards, were photographed at these cameras.  Notably we picked up BM36 (Boland Male #36, aka Somila), a dominant territorial male that first appeared on CLT camera traps in 2022, as well as BF29 (Ntombi) an adult female that we’ve been photographing since 2019.
